There are of course many other ways to rent a villa in Menorca, but be warned – what you see on the web may be too good to be true. If you book through one of the websites which claim to offer properties “direct from the owner”, be aware that the website is adding a substantial booking fee to your final bill.

Most importantly, check that whoever you book with is legitimate. This can be difficult, of course. One good tip is to ask whether they accept credit cards. If not, why not? Any reputable business should offer this facility. If you are asked to send money direct to a foreign bank account then you have very little chance of recouping it should the villa advertiser prove bogus…
